One-day tour from Sarajevo: pure wonder!

Available in : Italian

In this post I describe a one-day tour from Sarajevo. This tour was organized by Meet Bosnia Tours and it was simply spectacular. In fact, by participating in this tour I was able to appreciate beautiful parts of Herzegovina that are very different from each other.

One-day tour from Sarajevo: Konjic Bridge

The tour began with a visit to Konjic. This town of 25,000 inhabitants is famous for its wonderful bridge. This monumental work was built in the late 17th century by the Ottomans, who ruled this part of the world at the time. The bridge allows you to cross the Neretva River, which boasts an incredibly turquoise color.

Konjic Bridge was destroyed by the Nazi army in March 1945. Hitler’s men were by then in retreat and close to final capitulation, but they were still capable of acts of devastation. The bridge was reopened only in 2009. Here is a VIDEO of the bridge.

One-day tour from Sarajevo: Blagaj Tekke

The second stop on this one-day tour from Sarajevo is Blagaj Tekke. Blagaj is a small village of two thousand souls that has become famous for its beautiful Dervish monastery. Dating back to the early 16th century, the monastery is a must-see in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its location, in fact, is spectacular, as it lies near the karst spring of the Buna River.

Blagaj Tekke is definitely a quaint place, as evidenced by this VIDEO. There is a downside: Blagaj Tekke may be very crowded.

One-day tour from Sarajevo: Pocitelj

Pocitelj is a typical town in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Located near the Neretva River, Pocitelj is famous for its fortress, Ottoman mosque, and hammam. The visit to Pocitelj is short (about half an hour) but still interesting.

One-day tour from Sarajevo: Kravice waterfalls

Kravice Waterfalls are a jewel of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These waterfalls reach a height of 25 meters and a width of 120 meters. The walk (a half-hour round trip, fairly steep path) to view the falls is very pleasant, as it is possible to see this natural beauty from various viewpoints. At the Kravice Falls it is also possible to swim.

The visit to Kravice Falls takes about half an hour.

One-day tour from Sarajevo: Mostar

Mostar is the final pearl of this wonderful tour. The city became infamous during the fratricidal war of 1992-96. In 1993, in fact, the symbol of Mostar was destroyed by Bosnian-Croat troops. In fact, 1993 was an ominous year for Bosnia, which was already defending itself from the Serb attack that had begun in 1992: the Croats also attacked Bosnia in 1993. The symbol of Mostar, Stari Most (old bridge), was thus destroyed in November 1993 by Croatian forces.

It was rebuilt in 2005: the temper of the Bosnians also joked about the loss of this wonderful bridge, saying โ€œwe will rebuild it even older.โ€ the Italian state financed most of the funds. The bridge allows you to cross the Neretva River (the same as Konjic) and is 26 meters high: it is also popular with adrenaline junkies who want to jump from great heights. The bridge is quite steep: care must be taken when crossing. Here is a VIDEO of the bridge.

In Mostar it is also possible to visit another historic bridge, called Crooked Bridge. It is located a few steps away from the Old Bridge and is definitely worth a visit: it was built in 1558, only a year after the Old Bridge.

Mostar is not only bridges: you can also visit a beautiful 16th-century mosque and a museum dedicated to the 1990s war.
